I am a mother of three amazing children (Taylor,
Blaeith, and Sol) and partner to an equally amazing man. I am truly in love
with anything and everything that is involved with pregnancy, birth, and
breastfeeding. We are a vegetarian, home schooling, co-sleeping, attachment
parenting family and enjoying every moment of it. Below is a list of my
educational experiences but I have learned far more from being a mom for the
past twelve years. I
would love to be a part of your journey into parenthood.
I am a Wisconsin Native but have lived on the West Coast for the past four years. I am bringing my years of experience working in an amazing birth culture back to the families of Dane county. I am currently a childbirth educator at Meriter and am looking forward to working with families in Wisconsin again. (541)531-7607
Lisa Fiala is passionate about women’s health and believes that women should know what their choices are during childbirth. She is a recently married 35 years old woman who currently lives in a family friendly housing co-operative on the isthmus. A Minnesota native, but has resided in Madison for the past 6 ½ years working with and for families through child centered programs such as after school and summer camp.
Katie Casey was born into a family of Salvation Army officers. Meaning, my parents were ordained ministers for The Salvation Army, which many people don't know is a non-denominational Christian church. Because of their work in The Salvation Army, my brothers and I learned a lot about volunteerism, compassion, and a global view. We also moved around the central United States on average every two years throughout my childhood. You'd be surprised how many different cultural experiences one can have in just 11 of the 50 states! I also learned to adapt and be flexible and open minded through all of this! As I grew, I met my husband in The Salvation Army (his parents were officers as well) and it was very natural for me to begin working for them straight out of high school. My employment with them has taken me on several short term trips all over the world! I have also always had a natural inclination to nurture women and children, so that is what I did overseas. I worked with children (educationally, music education, with art therapy, and more) and with women in prisons, women escaping abusive relationships, and women in service groups. In one of my trips to Ghana, Africa, I was on a Salvation Army compound that had a maternity ward in a very rural area. I was invited to observe a birth and some postpartum events (exams, education, etc) they do at that clinic and I jumped right in and spoke words of encouragement to the women there (despite the language barrier, they appreciated and understood my efforts). I realized as I looked back at my own birth experiences how important it is for a woman and her loved ones to be supported during the birth experience. I realized how large an impact the birth experience can have on entire families! What happens during birth is not just a means to an end, but is a spiritual, psychological, and physical journey that has a lasting impression on the family unit. I want that impact and impression to be a positive one that will strengthen mothers, children, fathers, and everyone who is a part of that family's life. I have taken my passion to nurture and for different people and cultures and pursued education on childbirth.
